Catella advised in the sale of a major university property in Turku

The Åbo Akademi University Foundation has sold the Arken university property, located in the Turku city centre, to Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt Oy. The transaction price was approx. EUR 43 million. Catella acted as the seller’s financial advisor in the transaction.

Arken is leased to Åbo Akademi University with approx. 20-year lease agreement. The Faculty of Humanities operates in the premises, which include lecture halls, offices, a library, and an underground parking facility with 59 spaces. The total lettable area of the property is approx. 15,100 square metres.

The Åbo Akademi University Foundation carried out extensive renovation and redevelopment works at the property between 2001 and 2004, converting the buildings into premises suitable for education and research. The original buildings in the block are protected due to their historical value.

The divestment is part of the Åbo Akademi University Foundation’s long-term strategy to reduce its direct real estate holdings. The new owner, Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, already owns several educational and research properties in Turku.
