A renovation targeting the 2030 objective of the Tertiary Decree
BauMont Real Estate and Catella Aquila Investment Management have just inaugurated Tour Ariane in La Défense. Entrusted to Nouvelle AOM (Franklin Azzi, ChartierDalix, Hardel Le Bihan), this rehabilitation marks the transformation of the former Tour Générale, 50 years after its construction, to address the current challenges of the energy transition.
The new architectural expression of the facades, composed of a repeating module, follows the structural grid of the existing structure and concrete envelope. Each module consists of a rectangular frame in transparent double glazing in front of the portholes, and opaque glazing in front of the spandrels — a transparency that highlights the original concrete structure.
In terms of energy performance, the new full-height glazing creates a "thermal skin" in front of the load-bearing concrete facade, enabling external insulation while also enhancing the historic facade grid and increasing natural light intake. This new skin improves the thermal performance of the building envelope by reducing heating and cooling requirements by 30%, resulting in a 21% reduction in energy consumption for the tenants of this building, which has been awarded BREEAM RFO Very Good certification.
"The energy transition is a major challenge for all players in the real estate sector. The energy renovation of buildings is a concrete solution to reduce our carbon footprint and improve building energy performance. The facade works on Tour Ariane will enable us to meet the 2030 objective of the Tertiary Decree," said Olivier Vellay, Partner at BauMont Real Estate.
