Catella appoints Alexander Barotanyi as Head of Austria Residential at its new office in Vienna

Berlin-based Catella Residential Investment Management GmbH (CRIM) has named Alexander Barotanyi Head of Austria Residential at its office in Vienna, which was opened earlier this year.

Alexander Barotanyi has more than 15 years of real estate experience and served most recently as Asset Manager at Bank Austria Real Invest Asset Management GmbH. Prior to that, he worked for almost nine years in various positions in the Asset Services and Retail Departments at real estate advisor CBRE. Alexander has a degree in Economics and Business from the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

Michael Keune, Managing Director CRIM, said: "We are pleased to welcome Alexander as a member of our rapidly expanding Austrian team after opening an office in Vienna in February this year. We established a local presence to provide asset and technical management services for our growing portfolio of residential properties in Austria. We are confident Alexander’s expertise and skillset will enable us to tap more opportunities to add sustainable and affordable rental properties to our Austrian portfolio.”

CRIM’s residential investments in Austria doubled to more than EUR 500 million in 2021 from the previous year and it has since added another asset following the acquisition in July of 121 affordable residential units in a new development in the western Ottakring district of Vienna.

Alexander Barotanyi added: "Catella now has a solid portfolio of residential assets in Vienna, which are top-of-the-bill in terms of their outstanding sustainability and affordability credentials. I’m looking forward to leading the team in the further growth and expansion of CRIM’s investments in the Austrian market for our institutional investor clients.”

Catella has also just recently completed three new residential projects offering a total of 538 rental apartments in historic locations in and around the old centre of the city.

These include a complex of 217 modern apartments with underground parking spaces on Höchstädtplatz in the Brigittenau district; 73 rental units and 46 parking spaces in a modern T-shaped building developed on the former site of a suitcase and leather bag factory on Van-der-Nüll-Gasse in the 10th district; and 248 apartments and 124 parking spaces in a new residential neighbourhood in Hrachowina, built on the site of a former window and door factory in the eastern district of Donaustadt near the Danube River.
