The 60,000 sqm, 150-metre skyscraper begins its new life
Tour Légende is arguably one of the most emblematic towers in the La Défense business district. Conceived two decades ago, this 60,000 sqm, 150-metre skyscraper — whose summit reaches the same height as the Grande Arche — is embarking on a new chapter.
Designed by SRA Architectes and Ieoh Ming Pei, the American architect renowned for the Louvre Pyramid, Tour Légende was inaugurated in 2001 and underwent a modernization twenty years later. Originally known as Tour EDF or Tour PB6, it was renamed, refurbished, and re-inaugurated in September 2023. "We decided to rename the tower to mark its entry into a new era," said Olivier Vellay, Partner at BauMont Real Estate Capital, in May 2021, speaking to Business Immo. BauMont has managed this landmark asset in the business district since it was acquired in 2019 by Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC.
To carry out the project, BauMont Real Estate Capital and its operating partner Aquila Asset Management entrusted the operation to architect Nicolas Salmeron of the firm BSTLL. The practice, tasked with making the building more contemporary, introduced high-end, hospitality-inspired amenities from the lower levels to the very top of Tour Légende.
The project encompasses the renovation of floors 1 through 14, featuring refined, premium materials. The offices, bathed in natural light, are laid around wide circulation areas punctuated by lounges designed to encourage interaction.
The bulk of the works, however, focused on the entrance hall, reimagined in a smart building spirit, and on the two uppermost floors. On the 39th and 40th floors, the tower houses a range of amenities including a business center, meeting rooms, fitness facilities, a restaurant that can be converted into a flex office space, and an auditorium.
The tower holds the NF-HQE Tertiary Buildings in Operation and BREEAM In-Use environmental certifications, as well as WiredScore Platinum and SmartScore certifications for smart and connected buildings. Set along a raised pedestrian promenade on the major Louvre–Grande Arche axis, Tour Légende combines architectural innovation, sustainability, and quality of life for its occupants.
